This year, hunters in Texas will notice an increase in messaging about Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and its impacts to the state as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) launches a new public awareness campaign.

Students have been led through faith-based and fun dances (above) in the sanctuary and crafts like three-dimensional fish paper crafts (below). Cards and oversized games adorn every part of the church offering fun ways to worship and even showing off some hula hoop tricks (left). The VBS is held 8:45 a.m. to noon through Friday, July 28.

Cookoff now state event

The Stephenville Area Elks Lodge keeps making the annual BBQ CookOff even bigger and the organization announced last week the event will be an official state championship cook-off.
The sanctioned barbecue cook-off will be this Saturday, July 29 at Dublin City Park.

All manners of lessons

Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council hosted its annual manners camp last week (July 17-July 21) in their gallery on the Stephenville courthouse square. Girls learned rules of etiquette each morning while boys learned proper protocol in the afternoon.

Trial begins in auditor shooting case

A jury began hearing testimony Monday, July 24 in the trial of Garrett Reeves, 24, who is accused of shooting his father Kent Reeves, current Erath County Auditor.
The trial is being held this week in the 266th Judicial District Court with Judge Donald R. Jones presiding.

Burn ban now in effect

A 90-day burn ban was put into effect Monday, July 24 by the Erath County Commissioners Court. This followed a seven day burn ban enacted by Erath County Judge Brandon Huckabee Thursday, July 20.
Welding guidelines are included in the ban.
