The new year of programs for the Thursday Club were kicked off at the lovely, historic home of Denise Weems. In the absence of both president and vice-president Leta Sage presided.

Metta Collier, Marion Cole, and Rita Cook from Stephenville’s Fifty Women Strong organization spoke about their organization and offered an opportunity for members to become a part of it. Fifty Women Strong creates a community for women to think, dream and provide grants and assistance to local endeavors.

Roll was called by Judith Lemons with fifteen members present, four absent, and three guests. The minutes were then read and approved as read.

The program was announced, “Erath County Ghost Stories.” Denise Weems presented a collection of tales; most were familiar to members who added local color to the stories and had directions to locations where the scary tales originated.

Starting with the locally famous McDowell’s Hole, Dr. J.J. Mulloy’s haunted house in Stephenville, the Snow Murders, and a ghost encounter at the Clairette school. Denise wowed the ladies and got everyone on track for Halloween.

Following the program, a thank you was issued to the committee who entertained so nicely at the September Federation Day Luncheon.

A thank you letter from the Dublin Public Library for the participation in the Summer Reading Program and the Back-to-School Fair was shared.

Another thanks for participation in the Nation Day of Service through our Federated Women’s Clubs.

To help eliminate food insecurity, Dublin ladies provided 107 food items for the local Love Basket. A wealth of paper goods was also gathered for Transformation Pathways.

Members were reminded to keep track of volunteer hours and money spent on club projects and donations. Also, a reminder that the hygiene bags for the Methodist Church Food Pantry will be collected in December and again in April.

The scholarship kitty was passed, and everyone expressed hope that a scholarship can be presented this year.

Nov. 9 will be the next meeting; the program will be historical markers of Erath County. Leta Sage and Erryn Sprouse will host this meeting.

A gift was presented to Wyndi Veigel for her upcoming nuptials. This was a wonderful way to draw this gathering to a close.
