LISD honors board

Managing Editor The Lingleville School Board approved several items before being recognized during the regular board meeting Thursday, Jan. 11. Following the meeting, board members were treated to a meal and messages from students and staff as January is National School Board Recognition month.

New year looks bright for dairy

Big things will be happening in the dairy industry in 2024. One area that I am excited about is the possibility of returning whole and 2% milk, and hopefully flavored milks, to school cafeterias.

Proctor Lake water quality training set for Jan. 30 in De Leon

A Texas Watershed Steward workshop on the Proctor Lake watershed water quality will be held on Jan. 30 in DeLeon. The free event will be held at the De Leon City Auditorium, 125 S. Texas St., from 1-5 p.m. and is open to anyone interested in improving the region’s water quality.

Tarleton physics students honored

The Tarleton State University chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) has won the Outstanding Chapter Award from the SPS national office for effective student-led outreach in the 2022-23 academic year.

Buffalo sculptures alongside pumpkins get coated with snow overnight on Sunday, Jan. 14. Dublin received about an inch of snow alongside brutally cold temperatures lasting for several days. An already scheduled closure for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day gave kids the chance to play in the snow.

Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum Executive Director Carolyn Harbin is hanging up her spurs after decades in service of promoting the Everett Colborn rodeo and Dublin rich rodeo history and ties to the national Madison Square Garden rodeo circuit. Feb. 7 will officially be her last day.

Boots, black tie event on tap

A fun date night in Dublin is right around the corner with the Boots and Black Tie Ball set for Saturday, Jan. 27 in Dublin. The event will be held from 7-11 p.m. at Grafton Center (118 S. Grafton Street) and will feature a plated barbecue dinner, live entertainment, a live auction and door prizes.

Work day set for Saturday

  Volunteers are being called in for one last push in helping the family at 432 N. Park get their house finished to keep warm in winter weather. The workday is set for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 8 a.m.
