Sales tax continues to drop

For the fifth month in a row, Dublin sales tax collections were down for sales reported in June. Dublin sales tax collections were down in June, at -6.06% lower compared to June 2022, according to the state sales tax report released by Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar this month.

I have been getting calls about armadillos in the yards. Due to the lack of rainfall, armadillos move into yards where there is moisture, insects and worms. Armadillos weigh between 8 to 17 pounds and can be around 30 inches long including the tail.

AgriLife Extension district reporters compiled the following summary for the Central Texas district: The district was in severe drought with persistent hot and dry weather conditions. Soil moisture levels were very short. There was zero significant rainfall.

Library volunteers sought

Dublin Public Library is seeking artists and volunteers as they prepare to undergo a major renovation. The library is anticipated to be closed for a two week period of time in September to transform the library into an even more user-friendly space.

Fire assistance available; departments provide aid

Dublin along with area fire departments have had a busy week including a barn fire near Proctor. Fires throughout the state have been so prolific that Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced that the STAR fund is ready to help agriculture producers affected by critical wildfire activity.

The city of Dublin is asking residents to conserve water after the Brazos River Authority implemented Stage 4 Drought for Lake Proctor. On Tuesday, Aug. 15 Lake Proctor dropped below its stage4triggerof 1,150.1feet mean sea level.

The 20th anniversary of the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum is promising a Sept. 2 celebration almost as rich as the town’s history, capping off with the Everett Colborn Memorial Bull Riding competition at Dublin City Park at 7:30 p.m.

Dublin Volunteer firefighters along with Harbin and Lingleville were gifted with more than 500 cases of water and Gatorade through a water donation drive at Brookshire Brothers in Dublin. The store collected water and Gatorade drinks for area fire departments and distributed them Tuesday, Aug. 22.
