There has been an uptick in fly calls this summer. Often these folks want to automatically blame the dairy farm that is down theroad. However,do not be too quick to place blame, there are many reasons for this year increased fly populations.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane … it’s a cicada wasp I am still getting calls with concerns about the cicada wasp. A common large wasp in Texas, to start showing up and this prompted posts on Facebook and in news feeds mistakenly reporting cicada killer wasps as sightings of the Asian giant hornet.

Crop Report

AgriLife Extension district reporters compiled the following summary for the Central Texas district: Dry conditions continued. Soil moisture levels were very short. Corn harvest was nearing completion with reduced yields reported. Grain sorghum was a failure.

Fishing Report

BROWNWOOD SLOW. Water slightly stained; 86-88 degrees; 5.84 feet low. In the Texas heat, fishing is tough with fish clinging under docks, or in open water following bait balls. Bass are slow to three pounds scattered all over the lake biting on shaky heads and crankbaits.
