MUSEUM MATTERS

The Dublin City Jail was built in 1889 and was similar to those found in the American West. These small jails were called calabooses. It was located in the alley between the Dublin Bottling Works and what is now Celebration Park.

EDC okays grants

The Dublin Economic Development board met in regular session Tuesday to approve a community improvement grant and commercial business grants.

ASU honors locals

Several locals were named as Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, announced the students achieving the Dean’s List designation for the 2021 fall semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.

Comanche Chief Lampasas County petrophysical engineer Gary W. Franklin has filed to run for the newly-drawn Texas House District 68 seat. The district covers the counties of Brown, Lampasas, San Saba, Mills, Comanche, Eastland, Shackelford, Young, Jack, Cooke, Throckmorton and Montague.

Stephenville class to allay fears of falling

Older Erath County residents concerned with falling are invited to an eight-week class to help address their fears: A Matter of Balance. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. It is being held Mondays from Jan.

100 years ago Jan. 6, 1922 Drilling began again on the Sides Well No. 1, three miles southeast of DeLeon. Some gas had been found at about the level where the drill stood. The well was down 2, 660 feet on a formation of black lime.

Free SKYWARN class set Jan. 13

The 2022 severe weather season is not too far away, and the National Weather Service and local public safety officials want you to be ready. The National Weather Service will be conducting a free severe weather training class for Erath County on Thursday January 13th, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

POLICE LOG

December 20 Dublin PD was informed of an aggressive dog at the City Park. A caller reported a man in black camouflage trying to break into storage buildings on S. Park Street. Stephenville PD alerted Dublin PD to a reckless driver headed towards Dublin on Highway 377.
