Early voting now underway

Early voting in the March 1 Republican and Democratic primary elections, started Monday offering those in the Republican primary a chance to decide on local elections, state elections and propositions while those voting in the Democratic primary have several state races in which to decide.

Texas Statehood Day is February 19, an important date in Texas history. On this day in 1846, the formal transfer of sovereignty from The Republic of Texas to The State of Texas took place in Austin.

Genealogy Society to meet Feb. 26

Emily Martin Howle will speak to the Erath County Genealogical Society at the Dublin Public Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 26th.

Lions Club raffling fire pit

Dublin Lions Club is raffling off a fire pit-grill to raise money for a Dublin High School band scholarship. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. The drawing will be held during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration in March. The grill can be seen at Bradberry’s Best. —submitted

Hobby Lobby open for business

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a privately held national retail chain of craft and home decor stores, opened in Stephenville, Texas last week ahead of its announced Feb. 14 opening date. (For a list of first week sales and offers, see page A7 of this edition.

Harbin Community began as a dream in an area bordered by an old abandoned Indian village. Jonathan Harbin had moved from South Carolina and ended up in Texas. In 1878 he moved to Erath County and bought land northeast of Dublin. The first school was a log cabin with Harbin as its first teacher.
