Upcoming Important Agricultural Programs

Cross Timber Land Management Symposium

As everyone already knows we are facing some unprecedented challenges, and this is going to be a trying year for livestock and forage production. Rightly so, there is just not a lot of optimism in those sectors of the ag industry, maybe not any sectors of the ag industry. So many factors are out of our hands that it can seem overwhelming. There are some management decisions that can help you to at least slow the bleeding. We will be having an excellent program to provide you with some tools and ideas to make those decisions. The Cross Timbers Land Management Symposium will be held Friday, April 8th from 10:00 until 2:00 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station in Stephenville.

We have some excellent specialist talking about good topics for the times. Dr. Emi Kimura Texas A&M Forage Specialist will be talking about best options for fertilizer and even if you should fertilize. Dr. Jason Johnson, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Ag Economist will be talking about various drought management options from the economical side. James Jackson former Texas A&M Range Specialist will be talking about some economical weed control and giving a hands-on spray calibration clinic. All these specialists are excellent and extremely knowledgably in their respective fields.

There will be 2 CEU’s 1 drift and 1 general available for pesticide license holders. There will be a $15.00 charge and lunch will be provided. If you have questions or to preregister, call the office: 325-356- 2539.

Dairy Outreach Area Program Training

For all the dairy families out there, that need DOPA credits we will have the Spring DOPA meeting on Tuesday, April the 12th at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center in Stephenville. We will offer 5 DOPA credits. We will follow our traditional schedule with the morning session starting at 10:00 AM and offering 2-DOPA credits, the afternoon session beginning at 1:00 and offering 3-DOPA credits.

We have some excellent speakers covering topics of immediate interest and concern for local dairy families. The topics include Irrigating with High Salts in Lagoon Water, Anaerobic Digesters, Carbon Credits for Dairies, Compost Bedding, Regulations Concerning Digesters and Methane Gas Projects. There is no charge, the program and meal will be covered by our good local dairy sponsors. Please call the office to preregister for meal count, 325-356- 2539.
