Commissioners talk voting, variance

In a meeting lasting more than two hours, Erath County Commissioners moved through an agenda with 41 items Aug. 22, including setting election locations for the November ballot. For early voting, voters can cast ballots 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25-Oct. 27 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 and Oct. 28.

Cotton and Peanut Field Day

We will be holding the cotton and peanut tour again this year. It has been a sure rough year for crops in the county this year, but irrigated crops still look fair to good. Peanut acreage in the county is no where near historic levels, but peanuts are still a very viable crop for local producers.

Fishing report

SLOW. Water slightly stained; 84 degrees; 6.37 feet low. Bass good to five pounds on jigs, Texas rigged worms and crankbaits scattered around the rocky boulders 1-12 feet of water. Crappie to one pound are excellent on minnows 10-13 feet of water over brush piles and structure.

Getting their goats

Miller Show Goats annual auction was held Saturday in Dublin with 45 lots going on the auction block Buyers turned out from several states to bid on the goats to prepare for upcoming stock shows.

Crop Report

Western parts of the district missed the bulk of the recent rainfall, but eastern areas reported 1 to 4.5 inches. Soil moisture remained very short. Overall, pastures and rangeland conditions were very poor but were beginning to green up due to the recent rain and cooler temperatures.

Cricket Invasion

Field Crickets are out and about this year. Warm temperatures and recent rains serve as a trigger for cricket flights. Crickets are normally an outdoor insect, usually found under rocks, logs or any crack or crevice.

CCMC fundraiser on tap

Preparations for the 17th annual Comanche County Healthcare Foundation fund raiser are underway with tickets being sold and items for the live and silent auctions are being sought. The event will take place Saturday, Sept.

Aug. 15 A reporting person advised they heard a woman crying with multiple people outside in the 600 block of North Patrick Street. An officer did not locate any woman or disturbance but there was a small party that may have been the cause of the noise.
