75 years ago July 4, 1947 The Ranger Junior Chamber of Commerce was holding its second annual rodeo and roundup with Dublin’s Howard Brown as director of the show. The event was set for July 30-Aug. 1 at the Jaycee’s $30,000 rodeo arena in Ranger with over $3,000 in prizes to be awarded.

Two new deputies are now calling Erath County Sheriff’s Office home. With Sheriff Matt Coates are Deputy Taylor Williams and Deputy Julian Matlack. Both graduated from the Weatherford College Law Enforcement academy in late June.

No significant fires reported in county

There were no significant fires in Erath County over the July 4 holiday weekend, bringing a sigh of relief to residents and emergency personnel. Erath County Commissioners made a difficult call to shut down all firework sales and use on Wednesday, June 29 for a 60- hour period started at 10:50 a.m.
