I am receiving several phone calls concerning worms in mesquite trees eating the leaves. Most are reporting black worms although a few indicate seeing light green immature worms. I do recommend landowners scout your pastures and look for defoliated mesquite trees.

The 69th annual Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course, the largest event of its kind in the nation, dates are set for Aug. 7-9 and registration is open. More than 1,900 cattle producers are expected to come to the Texas A&M University campus.

BROWNWOOD GOOD. Water slightly stained; 72-76 degrees; 6.67 feet below pool. The bass have moved to a summer pattern. Black bass to 9.57 pounds are good on glide baits, jigs, crankbaits and shaky heads in 4-18 feet of water.

Gustine Homecoming this weekend

Keepin’ it Rural is this year’s theme for the Gustine Homecoming. The weekend kicks off Thursday, May 25 with the horse parade and Jr. Rodeo. On Friday, the Golf Tournament tees off at 1 p.m. at the PAR Country Club. The BBQ cook-off begins with the Kid’s Grilled Cheese judging at 8 p.m.
