WWII veteran remains return home Friday

After much waiting, the remains of World War II veteran Noel Shoup will be returning home to Dublin this Friday. A processional will be held to pay respects to Shoup on Friday whose arrival in Dublin is estimated after 8 p.m.

Horse-drawn carriages, the mounted Erath County Sheriff’s Posse and more paraded in downtown Dublin Saturday, Sept. 2 to kick off the 20th anniversary celebration for the Dublin Heritage Rodeo Museum.

Shoup service set

Body
A funeral service for Noel Shoup, World War II veteran and 1936 Dublin High School graduate, has been set for 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11 at Green’s Creek Baptist followed with a burial at Green’s Creek Cemetery. The public is invited to both the service and burial. Noel’s remains were recently returned to his family from France after being missing for many years.

A reporting person requested an officer for a person coming into her apartment and yelling at her. Dublin PD responded for an agency assist on a hit and run that occurred at Bosque River Center.

Honored

Carolyn Smith of Dublin was honored Saturday night with a reception to honor her 75th birthday and retirement from Tarleton State University after 37 1/2 years of service. The surprise party at Faith Lutheran Church was arranged by her husband, Max, relatives and friends.

Donation for donor spirit

Dublin High School was recently the recipient of a $500 grant from Carter Blood Care. Schools who hosted at least three blood drives per year are eligible for the grant and the money can be used for scholarships or other needs the district may have. Presenting the check was Debbie Grover, center, from Carter Bloodcare. FCCLA sponsor Regina Rasberry, Principal Norma Briseno, Assistant Principal Cedric Ivie along with several students accepted the check on behalf of the school.

Tarleton hosting womens’ self defense course

The Tarleton State University Police Department is offering a self-defense course designed specifically for women. The instructors, Sgt. Amanda Miller and Officer Doug Johnson, will emphasize education and awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance.
