Greens Creek Baptist Church VBS set July 26-30

Greens Creek Baptist Church will have their annual Vacation Bible School July 26-30 from 8:45 a.m. to noon each day. Theme for this year’s event is Concrete Cranes - Look up-way up. That’s where the lesson is headed.

Community invited to free screening tonight

The community is invited to a free screening of “The Light of Virsa,” a Christian epic produced by the Vining Sisters and scored by 18-year-old Erath resident Diego Campos. The screening will be held today (July 8) at Tarleton’s Clyde H. Wells Auditorium. Merchandise will be sold from 6:30 p.m.

CTFAC Art Camp starts Monday

Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council is hosting an art camp from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday through July 15, featuring instructors Stephanie Beach & Lauren Betancur. Learn elements of art design, work with different media. Create up to 12 unique take home art projects, plus sketches & practice papers.

Because of the number of fires in town, Dublin citizens became interested in a fire department just prior to 1890. They started out with a small hand operated pump Dr. O’Brien bought in Chicago. It had a hose that could be put down a cistern or well for a source of water.

Comanche Chief A Comanche couple, David and Kerry Kersh, will be featured on HGTV’s Battle on the Beach on July 11. The new competition show features three skilled teams of house flippers who will compete each week in challenges set by the judges.

100 years ago July 8, 1921 An ad read “The Sweet Shop is open for business and our assortment of candy is complete including freshly made Greek Specialties and the famous Mary Garden line.” The store was located next to the post office.

Summer reading continues

The Dublin Public Library Tails and Tales Summer Reading Program is underway. Readers can pick up a log at the library and record the books they are reading. Logs can be turned in between July 1 and July 31 by 2 p.m. for free books and a chance to win prizes.

June 26 At 11:53 a.m. a black and white belted Galloway calf was reported missing from CR 319. At 1:52 p.m. a black hardware drums case with two gray straps, four handles and two wheels was lost near Moo View Dairy on CR 394. At 4:11 p.m. a baler caught on fire on FM 188 West.
