    Lady Lions grow together

    “It’s great to see the difference between and this year,” said Lady Lions volleyball coach Kaitlyn Embrey, who is returning in her second year heading the program.

    Embrey reports that the team chemistry has improved tremendously since last year, with players building deeper bonds with her and each other.

    She said one of the most enjoyable parts of her job is seeing the athletes “working as a team, stepping up and taking pride in what they do. They’re already starting to do that, and it’s a lot of fun to watch.”

    She also said that the team’s “volleyball IQ” has increased as they’ve become better in understanding the strategies of their opponents on the court.

    This is aided as the squad is more seasoned with five seniors aiding in the team’s leadership: Hannah Binkley, Jocelin Chacon, Naomi Dudley, Kylie Olvera and Riann Turner.

    According to Embrey, The Lady Lions can best be described as ‘unpredictable,’ but said that it is a good thing.

    The coach says that the Dublin team is “scrappy” with quick reflexes and determination in returning the ball but are able to put up a united front.

    “You don’t know you’re going to get from moment to moment,” she said of teams coming up against Dublin.

    “We’ve got a few things to tweak throughout the season… but it’s looking promising,” said Embrey.

    The whole program is showing promise for years to come as well with several experienced members on the JV squads and the addition of assistant coach Arin Masters, who was head volleyball coach in Morgan and Teryl Dunn, who also boasts a lot of experience in volleyball.

    Embrey said her team is a lot of fun to watch on the court and urges others to come root for them. “The bigger the crowd, the more riled up my girls get,” she said.
