Tarleton women’s basketball went 2-0 this past week, largely thanks to Seynabou Thiam’s epic performances. For her efforts, Thiam was named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.
Thiam averaged 12.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 5.0 blocks and 1.5 steals across the pair of games, achieving a double-double with a career-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, 15 rebounds, five blocks and three steals in a 51-47 win at Northwestern State on Saturday. She finished with six points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks in a 59-55 win over Oral Roberts on Monday.
This is the first ever WAC weekly award distributed to a Tarleton women’s basketball player, and the first weekly career honor for Thiam.
Against Oral Roberts, Thiam set a career-high with five blocks, including a swat and rebound with 10 seconds remaining to prevent the Golden Eagles from tying the game.
At Northwestern State, Thiam scored a career-high 18 points, had a season-high 15 rebounds, matched her career-high in blocks at five, and set a careerhigh of three steals.
