Tarleton men’s basketball’s final nonconference game against Paul Quinn College has been canceled, school officials announced on Monday.

The Texans were scheduled to host Paul Quinn for a New Year’s Eve afternoon contest on Thursday, Dec. 31 but canceled the game due to COVID-19 protocols within the Paul Quinn program.

“We sure do hate to not be able to play, but there’s not a lot we can do about it,” said head coach Billy Gillispie. “We definitely need to play games. We are already trying as hard as we can to find a game, but the closer to conference you get, the tougher it is to find an opponent. We will play the cards we are dealt and try to do the best we can.”

Tarleton last played on Dec. 9 and has had its last six games canceled or postponed. The Texans have had eight games total that could not be played due to COVID-19 this season.

Refunds for prepurchased tickets can be made by emailing tickets@ tarleton.edu or calling 254-968-1832.

The Texans will begin WAC play at home against GCU on Jan. 8, 2021 in Wisdom Gym.
