The Dublin Lions faced a close fight Friday night as they took on the Anson Tigers for homecoming.

“We did a lot of good things, but there were a couple of opportunities missed,” said DHS Athletic Director/head football coach Greg Hardcastle. “Overall, it was a solid game. It just didn’t turn out in our favor.”

The home team took an early lead, as Cameron Patton rushed the ball over the goal line in a short run. After Aidan Hernandez completed the PAT, the Lions claimed the only seven points scored in the first quarter.

The Lions found themselves with a first down near the end zone in the second quarter but they were held to a successful field goal by Hernandez. The lions led 10-6 at the half.

Anson fired back in the third with a TD and successful kick, but that lead was short lived as Cameron Patton completed a 62-yard pass play from quarterback Kaden Gaitan to add six followed by another successful PAT by Hernandez.

Tigers claimed the lead and the game in the fourth with a touchdown and two-point conversion, ending the game 20-17 in Anson’s favor.

Hardcastle pointed to some bright spots included the kicking of Hernandez, who had all of his kickoffs land in the endzone.

Gaitan had 143 yards in passing and led in rushing with 83.

Cameron Patton had 60 yards in overall receiving.

The Lions will travel to Brady Friday, Sept. 15 as they face the Bulldogs at 7 p.m.

Hardcastle reported Brady has some big players on the offensive line so the Lions are going to try using quickness to offset the opposition’s size.
