Lions start district with W

The Dublin Lions opened the district schedule with a nailbiter 26-21 victory over the Comanche Indians at the Comanche stadium.

Although the Indian went into the game with an 0-5 preseason record, Lions Head Coach Greg Hardcastle knew they would be facing a fight.

“[Comanche’s] record is not indicative of the team they have,” said Hardcastle. “They played some really good teams and had a good game plan.”

This led to hard fought points for Dublin in the first half, but the Lions started to gain more ground as the offensive line started learning to read their opponents.

“We were able to run the ball on them in the second half,” said Hardcastle.

Offensively, Cooper Hubble had 81 yards in receiving, Christian Ramirez led in rushing with 67 yards and Chris Teten had 207 yards in passing.

Mosiah Lolohea and Javier Parra led in tackles with 10 each followed by Ramirez and Jesus Hernandez, who each had nine.

Teten, Lolohea, Ramirez and Hubble each brought in a touchdown and Ramirez went 2 for 3 in PAT kicks.

Following Friday’s victory, The Lions are 5-1 for the season and 1-0 in district.

The Lions return home Friday at 7 p.m. to take on Jacksboro with Hardcastle expecting his boys to get a good workout.

“They’re throwing the ball a little more than in the past still mainly a running team,” he said. “We’ve got to be ready for that.”
