All Dublin students will be invited onto Cervetto Field following the scrimmages Thursday, Aug. 22 as FCA Leadership Night will follow the JV and Varsity play against the Clyde Bulldogs.

JV will scrimmage at 6 p.m. followed by varsity at around 7:15 p.m., ending with two live quarters. Following the varsity play, speakers will be on the field to share for the FCA event.

The Scrimmage will also act the annual “Our Day to Shine” event. Donations will be taken during the scrimmage for the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation Benevolence Fund in “Our Day to Shine.” These donations to the organization allow the Texas High School Coaches Association greater reach in helping student athletes with hardship cases.

Head football coach/ athletic director Greg Hardcastle said Thursday will allow the team and coaches to further practice and refine their order before the start of the season.

Lions fans and coaching staff got to see our boys meet a solid Hamilton Bulldogs team for scrimmages on the Kooken Field in Hamilton Friday, Aug. 16.

“It was a good test for us,” said Hardcastle, praising the prowess of the opponents and how his players responded to it.

He elaborated that the varsity and JV and varsity had some bright spots offensively but gave up a couple of big plays revealing some defensive aspects to improve.

Among these bright spots were solid plays on both sides of the game by Fernando Esparza and a touchdown run by DJ Ferguson. Hardcastle also commended many of the younger players who played hard and stayed suited up to scrimmage with the JV and Varsity teams while the coaches work on their varsity picks.
