The Dublin Lions faced a fierce foe in Fort Worth Christian Friday as they opened preseason play.

“We had a lot of young guys in their first varsity game,” said Head Football Coach/Athletic Director Greg Hardcastle. “We didn’t play as well as we wanted, and they were a very good team.”

Dublin was facing an unknown as they stepped onto the Fort Worth field as the private school was added to the schedule at the last minute after scheduling conflicts with another opponent.

Although the test was hard, Hardcastle said his boys learned in the 61-23 loss and were showing improvements during this week’s practice.

They will get a chance to show off the new knowledge as they face the Albany Lions in a home game Friday night at 7 p.m.

Hardcastle characterized them as a well-coached team, but said they know more what to expect. Although they graduated some strong players, they’ve got some seasoned athletes coming back.

“It will be another week to test ourselves and see how much we’ve improved since last week,” he said.
