The Lingleville Lady Cardinals showed a lot of fight on the court last week as they went five sets deep against Lipan and took third in the Dublin volleyball tournament.

The varsity Lady Cardinals hosted a fiercely-fought match against Lipan Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Lipan took sets 1 (18-25), 3 (21-25) and 5 (4-15) but the Lady Cards secured sets 2 (25-20) and 4 (26-24).

Leaders for the game included: Kenleigh Jones (9 kills), Madison Howle (8 Kills and 2 blocks during the 4th set comeback) and Cambri Coburn (21 digs and 7 Aces).

“We always seem to face a little adversity,” said head Lingleville volleyball coach Brandon Haught. “I think it will pay off in the postseason though. Lipan is a really good team, and we took them the distance. I’m really proud of the way the girls battled all night, especially coming back from a 17-23 deficit in the fourth set.”

The varsity girls then traveled to Dublin Aug. 29 and Aug. 31 for tournament play, securing wins over Ranger (2-0) and DeLeon (2-1) and a 2-0 loss to Hawley on Aug. 29 before returning to 2-0 losses to Dublin and DeLeon. Lingleville took the final game for their third place finish with a 2-1 win over Dublin.

“After the first few weeks we have had, it was great to end on a high note in this tournament,” said Haught. “Sophie Hudson was a big contributor in our tournament success. She has really stepped up in the front row, and even more so as a captain of our team.”

The JV Lady Cardinals had a good week, claiming a 2-0 win over Lipan Aug. 27 and consolation champs in the Dublin JV tournament. The Jr. High girls also claimed a 2-0 win over Ranger Aug. 26.
