The Lingleville Lady Cardinals volleyball girls moved to 22-9 after splitting wins last week.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, they went 1-3 against Rising Star.
“We struggled early and that slowly snowballed on us. We got down 2-0 despite both early sets being close,” said head Lingleville head volleyball coach Brandon Haught. “Then we dominated set 3 and it looked like we could make this game go to 5. We lost set four 23-25 and that did us in. Despite losing the game 3-1, we were only behind 3 points total. We did not play well, and we are definitely not happy about it. We took the next few days to really focus on what we want to be in games and what our goals are.”
They followed this with a 3-2 win over Gustine Saturday, Oct. 11.
“It took 5 sets, but we got things done against a solid Gustine team,” said Haught. “They are much improved from last year and it showed. We were still showing struggles from early in the week, but we were definitely much more focused and locked in on our goals. We lost the first set 21-25, won the 2nd set 25-23, won the 3rd set 25-17.... We were up 18 to 8 in the 4th set and it looked over, but we let a string of bad plays snowball on us and we choked the set away, 23-25. We regrouped and dominated the 5th set 15 to 6. We won, but it still wasn’t a result that we are too pleased with.”
