Cardinals fans had their pulses racing as the team hosted Walnut Springs in a close back and forth battle Friday, Jan. 3.
“We found ourselves down by 6 at half and managed to tie the game back up in the 3rd,” said head Lingleville girls basketball coach Brandon Haught. “Into the 4th quarter, we got down by 10 again and it was looking grim. Fortunately, a great run by Denise [Toledo] and Ciklali [Rangel] got us back in the game and even had it go into overtime.”
Things got more difficult for the home team in OT as two players fouled out and Walnut Springs eked out a win 50-48. Still, the Lady Cards kept the energy and rallied back a couple of times in the well-defended overtime play.
“Overall, it was a good game, and you can see the improvement in these girls each week,” said Haught.
Ciklali Rangel led Lingleville scoring with 15 points and 11 rebounds followed by Alexa Rosalez with 11 points and 5 rebounds and Kenleigh Jones with 10 points, 11 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 assists. Denise Toledo scored 5 points and 13 rebounds and Amelia Finney also had 5 points.
