The Lady Lions added wins to their new season at home and in the Hamilton Tournament where they placed 4th.
The Dublin ladies claimed a 55-27 victory over Santo at home on Nov. 15 “It was another slow start for us, but we finished well,” head Dublin girls basketball coach Kim Perez. “We couldn’t get many shots to fall but we tried working the ball inside more.”
Madilyn Loper led the team with 9.
Also scoring were: Emma Vargas- 7, NavaLee White-6, Gabriyela Herrera- 4, Sierra Chapa- 3, Jordane Harrell and Madison Turley- 2 and Libby turner and Sarah Resendiz with one.
The Lady Lions placed 4th in the Hamilton tournament held Thursday through Saturday. Gabriyela Herrera was one of 10 players selected alltournament.
During pool play, Dublin beat Priddy 40-30. Loper lead the team with 8 points and 6 rebounds. White and Herrera each had 7 points, Turner with 6 and Chapa and Vargas with 5.
Dubli followed this win with a loss to Gorman 39-25. Loper again lead the team with 8, White with 7, and Chapa with 5. “We couldn’t get any shots to fall and had 24 turn overs,” said Perez.
On Friday, the Lady Lions rebounded with a win over Hico 38-22. Herrera led Dublin scoring with 14, White had 6, and Loper with 7.
With a 2-1 pool play performance, Dublin faced De Leon for 3rd and 4th place on Saturday.
“Freshman Olivia Salyer helped us and kept us in the game,” said Perez. “We were down two girls and we pulled her up to play with Varsity. She brought the energy we needed and scored 11 points.”
Herrera also had 17, Vargas had 6, and White had 4.
Dublin was up by 10 at the end of the second quarter but lost their footing in the second half.
“We were outscored in the 4th 12-17,” said Perez. “We will face De Leon once again at home on Nov 28, JV at 5 p.m. and Varsity to follow.”
“I’m very proud of these young ladies for stepping up and working hard every day,” said Perez. “We are getting closer and closer to district and I am pumped to see what we will look like then!”
