Gaitan swings at Regionals

Dublin High School senior Kaden Gaitan ended his golf season at the regional level this week as he competed against 95 other competitors at Diamondback in Abilene.

“Kaden performed with a strong mindset and never put his head down, as a true competitor,” said head DHS golf coach Wes Grisham.

He ended day 1 with a total of 104 strokes.

“He made some great shots on a tough course,” Grisham said of the day 1 performance. “There were times when his great shots had the worst luck, his ball would hit the middle of the fairway and rolled mysteriously into the water or get stuck behind the crest of a mesquite tree.”

“He battled all day hitting shots along side the two best players in the region,” he added. “Luck was just more on their side as they caught breaks.”

Gaitan bounced back at the beginning of day 2.

“Kaden started out strong with redemption in his eyes, sinking a 5 foot birdie putt after dropping a dime with his wedge from 140 [yards] out,” said Grisham. “He also birdied after a phenomenal drive that put him at the right side of the green.Luck would have it he was behind a tree but made the right move with his wedge and followed up with a beautiful 8 ft birdie putt.”

A few more challeneges had Gaitan falling back though and he ended the day at 103.
