The Lady Lions battle the Maidens and Mavs last week, boasting some solid defense on the home court in the Friday, Jan. 12 matchup.

This was against the Eastland Mavericks, who is tied for first in district.

“We executed our defense and shut down their best player,” said head Lady Lions basketball coach Kim Perez. “She had 2 points and usually scores 25 each game.”

Other Eastland players stepped in to fill the void though, including one who started securing threepointers.

This helped result in a 63-24 game. “We did great things this game,” Perez said. “We communicated the entire time, looked up the floor to the open girl, made good passes, hustled for deflections, and rebounded! I’m proud of the effort we brought.”

Adriana Stewart led Dublin scoring with 9 followed by OIlivia Salyer with 4. Derby Kukla had 3 and Emma Vargas, Ingrid Hernandez and Wendy Calderon had 2 each.

This followed a Jan. 9 away game against a competitive Comanche, which ended in an 81-25 loss for the Dublin girls.

Salyer led scoring for this outing with 8 followed by Stewart with 5 and Vargas with 4. Kukla and Hernandez had 2 each.
