For the second week in a row the Dublin Lions 7 on 7 team went 2-1 in state qualifying tournament play as they traveled to Lindsay.
“Overall, they played pretty well,” said Dublin High School Athletic Director Greg Hardcastle. “We saw a lot of improvement.”
The Lions opened up the tournament with a 13-7 win over Archer City. They asserted their dominance by claiming victory against Lindsay 31-13 in their second game.
They fell just short of claiming a ticket to the state tournament in the third game as they lost 28-14 against Honey Grove. Hardcastle still praised the team’s resilience in the final game, noting they were down 21-0 at the half.
The Dublin boys fired back in the second half scoring 14 to Honey Grove’s 7.
The Lions will look for a state ticket on June 7 as they play in the Abilene tournament at McMurry University.
Lions fans can check them out in league play as the Lions will host teams at 6 p.m. for the first three Tuesdays in June: June 4, 11 and 18.
