The 2021 Dublin Lions have been cutting their teeth with tough competition, facing a couple of 4A teams and even a JV squad from a 5A school.
“When I scheduled nondistrict, I wanted to make it tough, because we have a tough district,” said Head Baseball Coach Scott Mitchell. “I’m trying to put us in a spot where when we get to the money games, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before.”
This is Mitchell’s first year overseeing the program, taking over when Kellen Cervetto left last year. He is being assisted by Brendan Harris and Westin Wilhelm.
Despite this, Mitchell has known all the players since they were in 7th grade from his previous position. He said the players know what to expect of him and the program.
“The program has not really changed and they know the expectations,” Mitchell said.
Coach Mitchell said he’s been most impressed with his players’ attitude, saying they are going to compete no matter who they are facing. “They are not
“They are not intimidated by the competition so far,” he added.
The Lions lost their JV team early in the season, but that has resulted in a deep bench with three seniors, a couple of juniors and many underclassmen. Mitchell said the experience these young players get this season will benefit the program moving forward.
