Lions change venue for season’s end

Following the rain and hail that hit the Dublin area last week, the Dublin Lions switched venues from DHS to Tarleton State University due to ground conditions for the final game of the 2022-23 season.

Since it was senior night, the Lions lined up behind the bright purple ‘TEXANS’ of the Tarleton diamond.

Vs. Early

That ‘home game’ ended in a 7-5 loss to Early, but the Dublin boys stayed in the fight until the end.

Lions head baseball coach Brennan Harris reported the Pride was down by 3 going into the 7th inning.

The Lions claimed those three runs to force extra innings in the battle.

“We fought hard until the end,” Harris said.

An error with two outs led to two runs for Early and decided the game.

Vs. Brock

This followed a 10-0 fall to state-ranked Brock on April 25.

“We had multiple hits in the first inning and the bases loaded before hitting into a double play to end the first,” said Harris. “We couldn’t get much else going offensively. Alex Teten pitched majority of the game and did a solid job finding outs.”

Season

At season’s end Harris expressed a lot of pride in his team.

“We didn’t win as many games as we wanted, but we played hard,” said the Dublin coach.

“I’m very proud of our eight seniors (Chris Teten, Cooper Pickett, Dalan Rasberry, Jose Lopez, Cesar Caldera, Jonathan Campos, John Velazquez, and Juan Cardenas) and wish them the best of luck in their next phase of life,” said Harris. “Chris Teten, Cooper Pickett, Cameron Patton, and Dalan Rasberry led the offense this year for the Lions, while Jose Lopez, Zak Loper, and Chris Teten did most of the work from the mound.”

Harris hopes his players take the fight they showed on the field into their daily life and use the same determination and attitude for future success.

“This year will be counted successful if the players took at least one thing away from the season that wasn’t baseball related,” he said. “Anything to help them at some point in their journey of life. “
