The Lady Lions faced tough competition on Friday and Saturday in games rescheduled due to the winter weather.
On Friday, the girls traveled to Comanche and fell to the Maidens 69-35.
“We had not been in the gym all week due to the ice storm and you could tell,” said head Lady Lions basketball coach Kim Perez. “We struggled. We had some energy in the third [quarter], but not enough to close the gap.”
Sierra Chapa led the Lady Lions scoring with 8 followed by Emma Vargas and NavaLee White, who both had 7. Madilyn Loper scored 6 while Gabby Herrera and Aylin Chacon had 2 each and Derby Kukla scored one.
The Dublin girls returned home on Saturday to face Breckenridge in a battle that ended 60-41 in the Lady Bucks’ favor.
“It’s not the outcome we wanted, but we certainly played better than we did Friday and twice as hard as we played [Breckenridge] the first go around,” said Perez.
The Lady Lions actually led at halftime, but Breckenridge rebounded in the third, scoring 23 while Dublin scored 10. The home team fought all the way until the end though.
“I was pleased with the effort and energy,” said Perez.
Herrera led Dublin scoring with 16 points followed by Chapa with 8. Emma Vargas had 7; Libby Turner scored 4 and White and Loper had 3 each.
