The Dublin Lady Lions were continuing to show growth as they headed into this week’s game following a tight match against Millsap on Friday, Jan. 27.
“We had the best defensive game of the season,” said head Lady Lions basketball coach Kim Perez. “We ran a triangle and 2 set and kept their stud player to 10 points; she usually averages at least 18 a game. She only had two points at the end of the first half.”
Dublin was only down three points at the half, but faced a limited bench due to injuries. The team also felt the absence of Libby Turner after she fouled out.
Even with these issues, the Lady Lions only fell by 10 with 39 points to Millsap’s 49.
Gabby Herrera led Dublin scoring with 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 steals. NavaLee White had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Emma Vargas and Derby Kukla each had 4 points, Turner had 3 points and 3 rebounds, and Madilyn Loper had 1 point and 4 rebounds.
This performance followed a Jan. 24 home game to powerhouse Peaster.
“Our goals were to hold them to 80 and score more than 27 points,” said Perez. “We played with double the amount of intensity as when we first met up with them.”
The final score was 86-32.
White led us with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Herrera had 10 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals, Sierra Chapa had 5 points, Kukla had 3 points and 2 rebounds, Madison Turley had 2 points, and Turner had 1 point.
