Dublin Lady Lions faced Brock and Early last week as they started the second round of district.

“[On Jan. 17,] our game with Brock was more like a wrestling match,” said head Lady Lions basketball coach Kim Perez. “It was certainly one of the toughest games we have played.”

Although defense was tight, the Dublin squad was unable to sink anything in the second quarter.

“The Lady Lions continued to fight the rest of the game,” Perez reported.

Gabby Herrera led Dublin scoring with 13 points. NavaLee White had 9 points and 6 rebounds. Libby Turner and Bianca Morales each had 2 points, and Madison Turley had 1 point. Madi Loper helped with 8 rebounds.

The final score was 71-27 in Brock’s favor.

The Lady Lions traveled to Early on Friday, Jan. 20.

Perez reported that Dublin had issues with their press and rotations in the first half, and the home team capitalized on the problems. The Lady Lions were able to bounce back though and never stopped fighting.

“We picked it up in the second half,” Perez said. “Our intensity was much better and we were covering the gaps like we didn’t do in the first half.”

Herrera led scoring with 31 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals.

“Gabby did a great job at keeping us alive, she goes to the rim quickly and is excellent at drawing the foul,” Perez said.

Loper also racked up some nice stats with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Turley and Turner each had 6 points. Perez said Turner also had three steals and that her 3-pointers helped keep up Dublin’s momentum.

Emma Vargas had 5 points, Sierra Chapa had 3, and Olivia Salyer had 2 points.

Dublin claimed the win 65-49.
