The Dublin Lion and Lady Lion Powerlifters returned to the bars Saturday in the first meet of the 2022-‘23 school year at Venus.
Dublin Powerlifting head coach Wes Benfer reported DHS took 24 lifters to the event and many of them achieved personal bests during the meet.
Two Lion lifters claimed first in their weight classes.
Elijah Gonzales claimed gold in the men’s 165 with a total of 1,145 pounds after lifting 440 in squat, 270 in bench press and 435 in deadlift.
Cameron Patton snagged first in the men’s 132 with a total of 920 after lifting 320 in squat, 265 in bench and 335 in dead lift.
Also placing high in their classes for the Dublin boys were: Gonzalo Ortiz (4th in the 114 with 570), Adam Spharler (4th in the 148 with 870), Alonso Moreno (5th in the 165 with 1,065) and Bernardo Ortega (5th in the 198 with 1,195).
Mariana Ortiz led for Dublin ladies with a third place finish in the 198. She lifted a total of 855; 325 in squat, 205 in bench and 325 in dead lift.
Also placing high were: Carla Saucedo (4th in the 220 with 590), Cassidy Adair (6th in the 198 with 590) and Lucero Marquez (6th in the 123 with 495).
The lifters will stay at home this Saturday as Dublin High School hosts 14 schools in the invitational powerlifting meet, starting at 9 a.m.
