The 2022-23 Dublin Lions traveled to Hamilton Friday night to take on the Bulldogs in JV and varsity scrimmages, showing off some of the lessons they’ve already learned this season.
“I thought we showed improvement in executions over the inter-squad scrimmage,” said DHS Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Greg Hardcastle, highlighting speedier movement up the field and tighter defense. “We still have a lot to work on, though.”
Hardcastle said Hamilton provided some physicality for the Lions but felt that his boys matched up well. “We moved the ball well every time we had it,” he said, adding that his younger receivers stepped up as well as the seasoned ball handlers.
The varsity scrimmage ended in a live quarter where the Dublin boys scored twice and held Hamilton offense for several downs.
“Clyde may be a stiffer test,” Hardcastle said, referring to the Green & Gold scrimmage Thursday on Cervetto field, benefitting the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation Benevolence Fund in “Our Day to Shine.”
Cheerleaders will take donations during the JV and Varsity scrimmages set for 6 p.m. and 7:15 to 7:30 p.m. Donations to the organization allows the Texas High School Coaches Association greater reach in helping student athletes with hardship cases.
To date over 1,165 schools have participated in “Our Day to Shine” and have raised over $721,000. The THSCEF has paid over $641,000 to athletes and coaches in need.
These scrimmages will pave the way for pre-season as the Lions travel to Fort Worth Christian (6200 Holiday Lane, North Richland Hills, TX, 76180) to take on the Cardinals on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. (See map above for information on the campus and parking.)
The JV Lions will face FW Christian at home on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.
Fort Worth Christian will host the Dublin Lions at Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in the first official game of the 2022-23 preseason. The map of the North Richland Hills campus is included so Lions fans can get a glimpse at parking and campus layout.
