DHS graduate Levi Bamber claimed a personal record and nearly set the world record in bench as he took the top spot in the 148 weight class at the IPA Baddest Bencher on the Plant in Kingswood this weekend, where lifters from 12 countries were competing. Bamber claimed first in his class after he squatted 578, benched 540, and deadlifted 551 for a total of 1669 lbs. On his final bench lift, Bamber was raising up 611, 11 lbs. above the 600 lb. world record, when he dropped the bar as he pressed up. Bamber plans to attempt the world record again during the Father’s Day Bench Bash in Plano in June. He stands a good chance as this was his best total lift. Bamber claimed the state UIL record for bench with 355 lbs. in 2012 when he represented DHS in the state meet. submitted photo
