The Dublin High School golf athletes ended their season last week, showing much improvement, although none of the players advanced to Regionals.
Boys Coach Wes Grisham reported Ty Roberts led the Lions in shooting at the District tournament at The Hideout in Brownwood.
Roberts shot 86 and was only a few strokes away from qualifying for the Regional Ttourney in Baird.
Dublin finished fourth behin the first and second Brock teams and third place Comanche.
Grisham also issued the following observations: “Dublin boys finished strong in Brownwood with great shots in great weather. We have struggled all season for ideal golf weather and the boys took advantage of it. Our guys were playing shots well and using smart strategies and thinking ahead. Really proud of these seniors for a great season in competing and representing Dublin at the highest level.”
Also playing for the DHS guys were Payton Williams (90), Wyatt Watson (93, Charlie Rasberry (105), Michael Stanley (114), Dane Lewis (128), Andrew Butter (140).
Girls Coach Arin Master has the following to say about the season of player Madison Turley and Bailey Watson:
“I am very proud of how well both of these girls played this year. Madison Turley, a sophomore, played last year and improved a ton this year on her game! She was fun to watch and always kept a smile on her face.”
Bailey Watson, a freshman, who has never played before came out and ended up loving the game. She has improved tremendously since the first day she has touched a golf club.”
“We played our first round of District at Canyon West golf course. This course is very tough if you can’t hit the ball straight, but both of these girls played well and kept the ball in play.”
“The second round was at the Hideout in Brownwood, this was also a tough course but both of the girls brought some good scores.”
“They did not place at district, but these girls had fun and are ready to come back next year with some lower scores. These girls are easy to work with and are very coachable. I look forward to another golf season with these girls”
