Lions honored for gains

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has given the 2021-22 Dublin Lions squad more ink and another distinction when they named them one of the most improved UIL Texas High School Football Teams.

The honor came in a Jan. 20 article posted to texasfootball.com, in which Dublin was among seven schools in the second tier of most improved schools with 8 more winds in 2021 than in 2020. (The top spot was shared by Mauriceville and Stephenville, who each had 10 more wins in 2021 than 2020.)

Dublin was lauded for improving the season record of 1-8 to 9-4 and achieving the most wins in a single season since 1984.

In describing their selection pool, Dave Campbell’s said:

“Of the 1,222 UIL Texas high school football teams that played each of the last two seasons, 419 won fewer games in 2021 than in 2020, while another 165 won the same number of contests. That leaves 638 teams that improved their record in 2021 — some buoyed at least in part by far fewer canceled games this season.”

Dublin, in falling in the second tier, made the top nine.
