Dublin High School graduate and Lion Javion Ray received an extra honor during the Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Game in Brownwood Saturday.

Prior to hitting the field with the red team, Ray was presented the Jon Rhiddlehoover Memorial Spirit award for the way he had conducted himself and interacting with other players and coaches during the week.

Bob Cervetto, the recently retired Dublin Athletic Director who coached Ray during the last season, knew the award’s namesake, calling him “a very positive coach and brought out the best in people.”

Inspired by the coach’s legacy, the award recognized the qualities of courage, sacrifice and selflessness, which other had seen in the way Javion conducted himself.

Cervetto, who was on hand for the presentation, praised his former player, saying that he was really pleased with Ray and the year he’s had, only wishing that he had another year with the team to build on his Dublin successes.
