The Dublin Lions overtook an early Comanche lead to claim a 9-4 win over the Indians Friday, March 20.
“Overall, these kids fought!” head Dublin baseball coach Andrew Norwood exclaimed. “And they kept the energy every inning despite being down in the first inning. [I’m] super proud of these young men!”
Comanche retained the lead on the Dublin diamond for the first two innings until Daniel Velasquez singled to left field and two Lions crossed the home plate to tie it up at the bottom of the third.
Jaden Gauna scored a triple in the batter’s box at the bottom of the 4th for a Lion lead that lasted the rest of the game (5-3 at the bottom of the 4th).
Aiding in the victory was a strong performance by pitcher Joe Salinas who overcame some early jitters for some impressive stats. Salinas struck out nine and walked two while giving up 4 hits and three runs over six innings.
“He did a great job of keeping guys off the bases and getting us out of some tough innings,” Norwood said of the pitcher.
Norwood also called out Gauna and Aaron Rodriguez who each put in two runs batted in. Rodriguez also secured the last three outs on Comanche to close the game.
This win represented a redemption against Comanche as the Lions had scored 9 to the Indians’ 11 in an away loss Tuesday, March 17.
