Lady Lions fight through Holiday Classic tourney

You’re going to write The Dublin Lady Lions is focusing on getting healthy this week after several players hit the injured list at the TexasBank Holiday Classic in Brownwood Dec. 29-31.

“We got injured and lost two starters in the first and second quarter of the Maine-Endwell game,” said head girls basketball coach Waylon Salinas. “We got another injury in the May game and one injury in the Cayuga game” The Pride still managed to rack up points against their competitors and claimed a 47-29 win over Plains during tournament play. Derby Kukla and Olivia Salyer led scoring in that game with 11 points each followed by Adriana Stewart with 9, Regan Vanbebber with 8, Bayli Jackson with 6 and Savannah Chacon with 2.

Dublin put up 32 against Stamford’s 54 with Jackson and Stewart adding 11 each, Salyer scoring 7 and Chacon with 3.

The Lady Lions scored 35 to Cayuga’s 52. Salyer and Stewart each had 11 points. JV Lady Lion Tylor Nail stepped in and scored 7. Brittney Everett, Chacon and Jackson each put up 2.

The Lady Lions had 33 to May’s 70 with Salyer and Stewart scoring 12 each. Nail put up 8 and Vanbebber added 1.

They also scored 19 to Maine-Endwell’s 67. Stewart scored 7 and Salyer and Jackson each scored 6.

“We’re hurting, but trying to heal for district,” said Salinas. “It will be tough Tuesday (Dec. 6) against Comanche, but we’re hoping to get players back in time for Friday against Breckenridge. We just have to keep working and battling through injuries. One game at a time.”
