The Dublin Lions varsity and JV Lions claimed wins at the Hamilton Basketball Tournament Dec. 11-13.
The varsity boys went 2-2 in the consolation bracket. They defeated Crawford 69-64, before getting a close 78-85 loss to McGregor who received 2nd in tournament. They followed with a nail biter loss to Cisco 62-63 and finished off with a 74-59 win over Clifton.
Dublin Freshman dominated over Comanche, Goldthwaite and Cisco to earn the championship trophy— their second consecutive tournament championship following the DABC tourney at home.
Dublin JV also took 3rd place in the tournament, defeating Huckabay, Deleon and Clifton. The only loss was to Cisco.
“I’m really proud of our entire basketball program,” said head boys basketball coach Wes Grisham. “They are competing hard and really playing well together. Our coaching staff has been tremendous in preparation for these young men and the guys have showcased what they’re capable of. This tournament helped us prepare for district vs Peaster at home.”
The Varsity Lions headed into the tourney fresh from a 60-46 win over Hico Dec. 9. The team’s win was aided by some impressive stats: Hunter Jones - 14 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block Joe Salinas - 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals Jayden DeLeon - 8 pts, 4 rebounds, 6 assist, 7 steals, 2 blocks Aiden Jeffery - 8 pts, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal Kyson Gilman - 7 pts, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals Alex Teten - 5 pts Hayden Milburn - 2 points, 3 rebounds Ivan Phelps - 1 point, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks Julian Caldera 1 point, 1 rebound, 1 steal
