Dublin Lady Lions claimed third place in the Dublin Athletic Booster Club Tournament Dec. 4- 6.

They bested DeLeon 56-45 but came up short against Abilene Christian (43-27) and Eastland (5335).

“In the games with Abilene Christian and Eastland we got into foul trouble,” said head girls basketball coach Waylon Salinas. “We had a few foul out in those games, but we are still very proud of the team’s resilience which showed in the De Leon Game. We came out hammering in the first half of De Leon with a score of 33-12 at halftime.”

Salinas said the tournament gave them the opportunity to try some strategies and figure out where to improve as they head into district play.

“All in all, we finished the tournament more consistently by taking care of points and managing the game more effectively,” he said. “We are very proud of this group of girls. They continue to fight and get better each week. It’s exciting to see the growth that has been made since the beginning of the season.”

Olivia Salyer led Dublin scoring in the Abilene game with 12 points followed by Adriana Stewart with 6 and Brittney Everett with 3. Savannah Chacon, Regan Vanbebber and Derby Kukla each added 2 points.

Stewart led scoring in the Eastland game with 12 followed by Ismari Molina with 7, Salyer with 6, Kukla with 5. Vanbebber and Bayli Jackson each added 2 points and Chacon had 1.

Stewart also led in the DeLeon game with 21 points followed by Salyer with 18 and Vanbebber with 5. Chacon and Jackson each added 4 while Kukla and Molina each added 2. See related photo on page A10.
