The Dublin Lions put up a good fight against the smaller but ranked Huckabay Indians Tuesday, Nov. 25 with Dublin scoring 44 to Huckabay’s 64.
“We had a solid 3 quarters playing against the No. 5 team in the state of Texas for 1A,” said head boys basketball coach Wes Grisham. “We definitely had some chances to take the lead and hold it. We were down by 5 going into the 4th quarter and scoring only 3 points can really hurt us.”
Grisham said the Indians also capitalized on a lot of foul calls by sinking their free throws while the Lions had trouble getting offense in sync.
Joe Salinas led in scoring with 13 points, 6 rebounds and a steal. Hunter Jones followed with 10 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Kyson Gilman added 5 points. Aiden Jeffery had 4 points, 7 rebounds and an assist.
Ivan Phelps and Jorge Solis each scored 4 points and 4 rebounds.
Alex Teten amassed 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Jayden Deleon had 2 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and 2 blocks.
As Dublin hosts the basketball tournament this week, the varsity Lions will start with games Thursday, Dec. 4 against Clifton (12:30 p.m.) and DeLeon (8 p.m.)
The JV boys will play against Brady on 9:30 a.m. Thursday while the Freshman Lions are slated for Friday games against Brownwood (8 a.m.) and Brady (6:30 p.m.).
