It’s hard to believe we’re already in the third six weeks of the school year! Before we know it, state testing will be here. To help students get a head start, schools are sharing a few reminders as everyone prepares for STAAR testing and the rest of the year ahead.

STAAR testing will take place throughout the month of April, running from April 6 through May 1. Students in grades 3 through 12 will participate, and schools are encouraging families to make sure their children are present during this time. Testing is an important opportunity for students to show how much they’ve learned this year, so parents are asked to plan appointments and trips around testing dates whenever possible.

Students in grades 3–8 will take Math and Reading Language Arts tests. Fifth graders will also take a Science test, and eighth graders will complete all four — Math, Reading Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

High school students will take End-of-Course (EOC) exams in Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History. These tests are a key part of graduation requirements.

In the meantime, teachers encourage students to stay on top of their grades, come to school every day, and ask for help when they need it. A little preparation and consistency now can make a big difference when testing season arrives!
