The Dublin Pride will hit the turf for their first game of the season 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 as they face the Bearcats at DeLeon.

Joe Salinas will be leading the varsity football boys as quarterback after stepping in for Paxton Loper following an injury in last week’s scrimmage against Clyde.

Dublin head football coach Greg Hardcastle said the Bearcats present some known strengths but also some unknowns this year.

“They’ve got a lot of players back from last year and a new coaching staff,” Hardcastle said. “They have a little bit of a different look and new systems.”

Hardcastle said his team is equipped to face off with them, but the coaches and players are working to be prepared.

“I feel like we’ve got a good game plan,” Hardcastle said. “We’ve done some good things defensively. We have to use what we do well and play to our strengths. We’ve got to keep the receivers in front of us.”

Hardcastle said they are using the challenges at this point in the schedule to sharpen them up for the regular season in district.

“We’ve got to go out and focus on improvement every week,” he said.
