The Lingleville Cardinals basketball boys opened their season with an 87-38 win over the Bangs Dragons in the home gym Saturday, Nov. 9.

“The boys came out ready to play,” said head basketball coach Garrett Stewart. “I could not be more happy with the energy and effort we came out the gate with to start the year. We are trying to play faster this year and it’s showing.”

The speed was evident from the opening as Lingleville flew to an early lead, scoring 30 points to Bangs’ 7 in the first quarter. The Cards were leading 4614 at the half and maintained control throughout the second half.

Lingleville forced 45 turnovers in the battle and stole the ball 30 times.

Senior Issac Martinez led Lingleville scoring with 25 followed by Garrett Hurt with 22, Jorge Toledo with 18 and Jaxson Rives with 11.

“Everyone played a big role in the win,” said Stewart. “I am really excited about this year and seeing what we can accomplish!”
