The Lingleville Lady Cardinals added two Ws to their season last week as they faced Iredell at home and Meridian in an away faceoff.

The Lingleville Cards looked comfortable as they came out to an early lead against Iredell in a Sept. 10 home game, capturing all three sets. The visitors managed 11, 10 and 12 points in each set when Lingleville scored their 25s.

“It was a great win for the Lady Cardinals, and a great opportunity for our younger players to get some court time,” said Lingleville head volleyball coach Brandon Haught. “Dylan [Gibson] had a great game and had her season high of 18 assists. Cambri Coburn and Denise Toledo were great contributors as well.”

The varsity Lady Cards followed this with a 3-1 away winoverMeridian.Lingleville scored 25s in sets 1, 3 and 4 and 15 in set 2 which Meridian claimed. The home team scored 13 in set 1, 16 in set 3 and 7 in set 4.

“We battled through a lull in our second set where we got a little too complacent with how we were playing. Meridian did an excellent job of offering a counter attack to our defense in that set,” said Haught. “We were able to adjust and rattled off a great 3rd and 4th set though.”

“Madison Howle and Kenleigh Jones had excellent games for us,” he continued. “Madison had 5 blocks which is the most she has had all season, as well as 8 kills. Kenleigh was everywhere on the court. She finished with 5 aces, 12 kills and 12 digs. Both of these seniors have been stepping up lately, and that is why we have won 4 out of our last 5 [games].”

The JV Lady Cardinals also beat Meridian in a twoset victory (25-23, 25-17), thanks in part to standout playing by Marti Luttrell and Jazmin Martinez.
