BROWNWOOD Water lightly stained; 63 degrees; 3.55 low. Largemouth bass are excellent with chatter baits, frogs, bladed spinners, crankbaits, and finesse jigs in coves, along grass lines and timber in 2-12’. Crappie are good on minnows in brush piles, near bridge pilings, and in the creeks.

Fenceline Chatter

Recent rains have made it easier to locate fire ants and spring is a good time to control fire ants when they search for food and build mounds. Broadcast baits are the core of AgriLife Extension’s recommended treatment.

Dairies donate to food pantries

Food pantries continue to face increased demand for food assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, Feeding America®, with its more than 200 affiliates across the country, projects that 42 million people (1 in 8), including 13 million children (1 in 6), may experience food insecurity in 2021.

It is the time of year that honey bees will start swarming. This time of year, we always have folks call concerned about seeing a large numbers of bees either flying or gathered together in a huge mass. There is nothing to be alarmed about, this just a honey bee swarm.

Crop Report

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service Sorghum acres are expected to be up this year as prices and increased export demand have made the crop a hot commodity, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. Sorghum being harvested Ronnie Schnell, Ph.D.

Trees were planted

Lions to host Irish Stampede

Dublin Lions Club will once again have their annual Irish Stampede the second weekend in June in honor of local diary farmers since June is diary month. The run - a 10-5-2K race, wil be on a certified course with the 10 and 5K races to start at 7:30 a.m.

MUSEUM MATTERS

We have a book called “The Frontier Postmasters” written by Homer Stephen that has been donated to the museum. The book contains a wealth of knowledge about early history of North Texas. In it Mr. Stephen wrote about his mother and I wanted to print it here in Museum Matters for Mother’s Day.
