Scholarship open to journalism students

The North & East Texas Press Association, in conjunction with the Texas Press Association, will once again award two $1,500 scholarships to eligible candidates at its April 25-27, 2024 convention held in Granbury.

Feb. 29 is deadline for prepaid tuition program

Texas families can lock in today’s cost of undergraduate resident tuition and schoolwide, required fees at Texas public colleges and universities by enrolling their children in the taxadvantaged Texas Tuition Promise Fund before the close of the current general enrollment period on Feb. 29.

Rodeo event boasts ‘Simply Style’

Primary Early Voting continues

Early voting for the March 5 primary that includes Federal, State and Countywide elections started Tuesday, Feb. 20 and will continue through Friday, March 1. Voters can cast ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 through Friday, Feb. 23; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb.

Dublin-wide St. Pats fun on horizon

A slew of green spirit will be on tap for this year’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities March 14-16, including the annual parade, vendors, live music and pageants.

Fire destroys local home

Emergency services spent more than three hours Thursday, Feb. 15 on scene at a house fire at 426 W. Mesquite. According to Erath County Fire Marshal Tommy Shelton preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was accidental and no one was home at the time of the fire.

City races draw candidates

An election for city council and mayor will be held May 6 after filings ended Friday, Feb. 16 in contested races. For the race of mayor, incumbent David Leatherwood will face off against John J Staud III. For city council Place 2 incumbent Orion Gallagher will face off against Nancy Williams.

Court talks subdivisions

Growth and pre-application meetings filled the Feb. 12 Erath County Commissioners Court agenda. Subdivision coordinator Jason Gardner updated the commissioners on several projects taking place in the county through preapplication meetings.

Filing deadline wraps Friday

Filing for local seats for school board and city council will close Friday, Feb. 16 for the May 4 election. For Dublin ISD, there are three school board seats up including those currently held by Bob Cervetto, Raymond Salinas and James Moore.
