The New year started out especially good for local farmers with some excellent rainfall and snow. Dryland small grains would not have lasted much longer without the New Years Eve rain and snow event. The 2 to 4’ of snow following the rainfall was an extra blessing for everyone.

Letter to the editor

Dear Editor, (Editor’s note: the following poem was sent as a reaction to the snow that fell on New Year’s Eve.) There was a blanket of snow on New Years Day. Which allowed the folks to go out and play. They romped and they rolled, Even though it was cold. Forgetting the fuss and the fray.

Christmas arrives tomorrow, bringing a time to remember the reason for the season and show our appreciation for the ones we love. It also brings a reprieve to the gift buying season that started with Black Friday and possibly earlier.

Bloat on Small Grains Because of the La Nina weather pattern it has been a tough year for small grains, but there are still a lot of good grain fields in the county. I see a lot of cattle already grazing and other fields that are about ready to have cattle turned in on them.
